I have just installed win2000 pro on a Computer with 694X/686B VIA chipset running a Celeron Processor at 600Mhz. It has an ATI Rage Pro 4X AGP video card. the problem i had is that the first time i went to boot up after install, the machine froze before it made it to the log on. After adjusting a few settings and installing all the upgrades and service packs, i found out the video card was the culprit. So if i remove the video card (it is detected as a Rage Pro 2X if that matters...) and reboot the card is detected and installed automatically. So everything is ok till i reboot again. If the ATI card is installed when i reboot, the system hangs. If i remove the video driver or change to VGA then the system is ok.

Also when the system does hang, I can boot up in safe mode ok but i can't boot in VGA mode...

I even used the BIOS ID to find out who manufactured the mother board and went to their website and downloaded the VIA 4in1 chipset drivers(it includes drivers for the AGP port) and that didn't do any good at all..
sooo...any ideas??

Try to use another Video card, If that works fine then the problem is with the AGP card. Also try installing windows 98 drivers. Make sure u have installed all motherboard drivers. Check the Aperature size in the BIOS try to get it low and see if that sovles the problem.
