When setting up a Raid Array, would you consider it better to setup thru external equipment or set it up with internal equipment?

Any recommendations on Equipment.. Most likely Raid 5.

If you are going for Raid 5.
You probably are thinking of security
so that in my mind would mean internal.
Consider SATA controller, go to www.tomshardware.com for reviews.
SATA disks last’s a lot longer than IDE,
but then again if money is not an issue,
go for SCSI http://www.lsilogic.com/products/st...raid/3202.html.

This is what i use at Home and for all the Servers i build.

Accusys 7500 hot swap IDE Raid

I have been using this System now for about 2 Years, sold about 12 of them, very effective, never had a problem, performance is awesome, Security even better.

The raid is more for redundancy then security, although security never hurts thanks for the links..

Oh yeah and MONEY is always an issue.

Kind of just breezed over the link.. how may drives does it hold? or is it expandable?

Looks like a dual drive RAID 1 setup from the pictures and description.

I'm not certain how someone managed to come up with the idea that SATA drives last longer than IDE. SATA has been publicly available for a year. If your drives fail yearly, I'd recommend stepping away from the computer or stop using U/160.

The Device only holds 2 Drives, ( Mirror) and hooks up to your IDE-Channel.
The OS will only see one Drive.
You can change Drives without shutting down the Computer.
