About 2 months ago a started a clean slate with my computer. I took out the old Tyan board and replaced it with a similiar Soyo board. It's a socket 370 board.

Since putting in my old hardware ATAPI devices such as my Plexor CD-RW 48x24x48 and DVS 16x DVD-ROM drives. I always noticed upon boot-up that both ATAPI devices are running on PIO Mode 4. According to old info I found on the DVS Korea site a while ago (since then they have redesigned and make no mention of my DVD drive) this device has the capabitity to run at ATA-66. I believe the Plexor might do Ultra-DMA however I could be wrong. How can I change these modes? I remember DVS used to have a program that did it for you.

Any ideas?

Actually those are CTG ATA-100 cables (aerodynamic).

Go to Devicemanager-click on the "+" next to IDE ATA/ATAPI Controller-rightclick Primary IDE Channel-Properties-Advanced Settings.
Then try different Transver modes.
If, after restart the devices are not "seen" anymore by Windows, change the Cables or the Devices do not support the DMA Mode.

Try upgrading Drivers for the IDE Controller.
