| Can someone help me with this? Win XP. Put floppy into drive. Open floppy. Read floppy. Close floppy. Remove floppy. Put another floppy in drive. Open floppy. Still shows the files on the first floppy. Tried refresh. Tried another disk but always shows files on first. Cannot get the FDD to read another disk. Gotta be something really stupid. | |

| Something to check.
Your floppy cable might be damaged.
Specifically the pin 34 wire (the outside wire of the ribbon cable that is NOT marked with a red stripe). It's either that or the floppy drive isn't sending a signal down the Pin 34 wire (bent or broken pin on the motherboard or the floppy drive itself).

| I had this same problem with my CD Drive. I had to reboot to clear the system. I ended up doing a reinstall and haven’t had the problem since. | |

| well i have a similiar problem(this comes from being independently rich but unwilling to let go of older hardware...) but can work around it. after changing disks, i simply change focus to Drive C: then back to A. (its a simple arrow down and back up again. this causes the disk to be re-read. i also have a floppy that will format disks and write and read disks. but the disks cannot be read in any other drive. obviously a unique head alignment scheme...
to me u might be better off to get another drive, or just do what i do. I have 4 computers networked together, 3 computers had floppies, one works conditionally, one doesnt work at all, and one works well. the one that works well is shared on all 4 computers.

I have seen that happen when the BIOS has been told it is a 5¼" drive and it really is a 3½" drive. |
