It requires good HARDWARE to run properly.

| I'll let you have that one. | |

| This game is always free, just dl and register...
The only problem is it required high speed, I repeat high speed PC to play the game.
My P3-550 can't play this game...

Wow what a dog, it is amazing that you can even surf the net with that.
Seriously however after 1GHZ it is the video card that affects you in 3d games. The Intel graphics controller is not that bad if it is one of their motherboards that ties it to the AGP bus internally and you have around 64meg dedicated to it. Not a speed demon by you should be able to try the game.
I wonder if the army had subliminal messages suggesting that you enlist buried in it.

| well the system was not built to be a game computer and it does a great job of that...
the problem i have is that it is a Dell system and although it is AGP4X capable, the sideband addressing has been turned off. i havent had much time to look into it, but does anyone know how to turn it back on?
i checked the BIOS settings and they have nothing other than a switch to enable local memory on the card in VGA mode.(1Mb or 8 Mb) the AGP chip also doesn't support transform lighting amongst other things that severely hamper its performance.
to compare, i have a P3-500Mhz with a 3DFx Banshee PCI video card with 16 Mb of RAM and it outperforms the P-4 on several games. the P-4 AGP chip is supposed to have 64 Mb of RAM to use for texturing and what not. I have 512MB of system RAM and when I run a game like Battlefield 1942, the CPU runs at nearly 100% using as much as 460MB of RAM. and this is with most of the video perks turned off or set to low. and even then, the only setting i have on high is the field of vision ( it is the part that renders as much of the background as soon as possible) and i frequently see it lagging. (people and objects popping up out of nowhere, or being killed but not falling down right away...)
this is my nephew's computer and i told him i could build him a better system for less, but he couldn't wait, plus he got the thing on credit. not bad for 750$ but i could have gotten him the same processor, much better video, bigger HD and more RAM for $600. now i admit, the system would not have come preloaded with 9 GB of software, in fact it would have basically only had Win XP, and the CD burning software that comes bundled with the burner i plannned on using. but...i dont do credit...

| ok i checked the hardware requirements and they are steeeeep!
they recomend a 2 Ghz processor with a T&L capable 3D accelerator with 128Mb of local video memory.
No Intel or Voodoo chipsets are supported. which eliminates even my game machine...bummer...sounds like a good game too... oh well...sigh...

| Thats the military for you, they have to even have superiority in game machine video cards. What ever happened to sticks and rocks. Oh yea I forgot that is what our machines are. 128MB of video memory huh, I guess I better look at video cards closer again. | |

| A couple of things...
1. The embedded Intel chip will not work, as it cannot do the T&L required by the game.
2. You can use a CPU that is under a 1.3G, but recent "improvements" found in the 2.0 (AA:SF) release might cause your system to flounder. Likewise with the 64MB video card restriction.
3. You shouldn't need a CD-ROM unless you are loading the game from CD, which would be in the cases of receiving it via game magazine insert, through a US Army Recruiter or via Gentoo LiveCD.
4. It is possible to play on less than a 56k modem, however the performance is much less than optimal. Honestly, I would not consider playing on less than a dual channel ISDN on version 2.0 or higher unless they improve on the netcode and servers.
5. You can create a LAN game should you not be able to play online for whatever reason.
6. Should your system be slightly lower in performance than the specs, ie: on RAS/DUN connection, Nvidia/ATi video card less than 64MB, less than 1Ghz CPU, you might try playing version 1.9 as there should still be servers for it on the Internet.
Cheers,

| WELL i installed the game on a P-4 2.4 Ghz computer with the embedded Intel 82845 Extreme graphics controller and it works.
according to the FAQ, it was'nt supposed to, but what can I say?...
the quality is low, but that is true for every game. (I have a Voodoo3 card that runs circles around the Intel chipset)
best i can say is update the driver, the Intel site has 2 updated drivers over the Dell site. defrag before you install, and turn off the garbage before you play...
and also... I finished basic training in only an hour or so at the most.... but i went through rifle training 4 times to qualify for sharpshooters school...
the computer has only a 56 K connection so the game play is somewhat shaky... will be trying this game on cable connect probably this weekend, provided i dont have anything come up... tommorrow is booked for Lord of the Rings...

| Voodoo3??? Boy, that thing has got to be 4 years old.
Sorry to burst a bubble, but please get yourself a nice Radeon or GForce.

| ya i no its old. but it was cheap when i got it...free...
i am building a system for me and one for my nephew... will probably being doing the ATI 9600 pro with 128 MB memory. the rest of the system is pretty much unimportant. but now im wondering that the way games are going, it might be less than a year and ill be right back to where i am now.... |
