Several of us in a discussion group have had this problem, it's a combination hardware/software problem, let's see what we come up with.

I recently got DSL, and I think the installation of the isp software upgraded my IE, which is okay, but when I'm surfing, the mouse freezes. Keyboard works okay. Microsoft says it's something to do with the calculations for the mouse movement on XML pages, and they won't offer support on the net, but they want you to call their tech support, and after they talk to you they'll tell you whether you have to pay for it or not. Not acceptable!

Who's solved this problem?

Have you tried a different Browser like Mozilla?

I've never tried Mozilla. I do want to go ahead and get Netscape because of some of the other great stuff the package has, but I'm not at all familiar with Mozilla, or any other, for that matter. I wonder if simply upgrading to 6.x would solve it. I had also changed mice, because I had gotten a scroll mouse with some software I had received, but it wasn't a really great mouse, so while I was shut down anyway I went and changed mice back to the old one (yes, I still use the one that came with the computer five years ago) just in case that was contributing. Since Mozilla is the one you mentioned, I'm assuming you are familiar with it. I can read about it at their website, but what do you like about it?

What kind of a mouse you using? I never heard of something like that.

You try uninstalling the mouse and letting Windows redetect it?

Yanqui:

You didn't mention what OS you were using, but you may want to take a look here and possibly adjust the parameter MouseDataQueueSize. Just an idea.

Some of the most awesome features are built-in pop-up stopper and tabbed browsing.
Definately read up on that feature, you will like it, i am sure.

the difference in the Mozilla browser and the Netscape browser are not significant imho.
i use Mozilla and prefer it greatly.
it has less issues with certain web pages and the items that come with it like popup stopper is excellent.

but on the mouse problem, in the 1.5 beta there was a situation when a USB mouse would temporarily stop working if you had multiple windows open. apparently when closing a window, the focus was slow to reset to the window below the one being closed.
but that problem was supposed to have been addressed in the build released in the last 3 weeks.

I did several things--first, I removed the scroll mouse I got as a freebie from a software company (not MS) and replaced it with the OEM that came with the computer. Then I downloaded Netscape 7 and the latest IE. WOW--someone told me I'd love DSL (well, okay, EVERYONE told me I'd love it) and I DO! The last time I downloaded Netscape (which was at least one reformat ago) it took over an hour. This one took about three minutes. I've been using that, I really haven't even installed IE yet, but I know I will have to when I crank up the web design business at the new year. I think that with the old version of IE I was using, which was the one that came with the DSL modem and new isp software, and the old mouse, on certain pages, the calculation of mouse position wasn't keeping up with the mouse and was just giving up, suffering from information overload. It may not have been any one thing that cured it, but the combination. Anyway, the only problem I have now is finding time to enjoy the fast access.

BTW, keep surfing the General Discussion forum--pretty soon I'll be posting a link to my very first website for you all to critique before I submit it to searchers.

Good to see you got it working again.

As you've suggested, I'll be looking on the General Forum for your post.
