Is there an OS version for the pix that has telnet functionality so that I can telnet from the pix to other devices?

Negative. The very nature of the pix is such that you are not allowed to telnet from the device itself.

The "telnet" command in the pix OS is only to set permissions for which clients are allowed telnet access to the device: kind of like creating an access list and applying it as an access-class to the vty lines on a router.

Yeah, I know what the telnet command does on the pix...

It'd be nice to have some other connectivity tester from the PIX other than ping. To verify routes and such.

I understand. It's the nature of the beast. It's supposed to remain "invisibile" in your network. If you were to do a trace from inside your network to a host on the internet, the pix would not even show up as a hop.
