How good is “CCSP Self-Study : Cisco Secure Intrusion Detection System (CSIDS) (2nd Edition) – by Earl Carter for 642-531 exam.

I am planning to buy this book for exam. Anyone who has used this book for exam preparation pleases comment.

Thank you

It is ok. The material is all there but it could be better presented. It just kind of follows the exam outline on the Cisco website. Some things could have better context, eg when showing how to do something, he mixes command-line, IDM and IDSMC all together to show how to do one thing, and the same for the next objective. I would have preferred if all or most CLI config was presented, then IDM, then IDS MC. It is starting to stick nonetheless. Oh, and a few to many "Note: bla bla bla"'s dotted through the book. Given the dearth of self-study titles available, I reckon you will have to go with it. Much is copied and pasted from CCO docs but they are difficult to trawl through unless you know exactly what you are looking for.

Thank you Soliboy for comments.

Seeing 99 views and single comments tells a lot about book credibility for Exam. Well -still, I think this book is like a good storybook for Cisco IDS.
Good luck to all

The ciscopress book is not your best option if you are studying for the csids exam. I have taken the test and there are questions on the exam that are not even covered by Carter's book. The sybex book does a far better job of covering the exam material and uses exact terms that you will encounter on the test. Plus the sybex book includes excellent sample questions and a test engine on cdrom. Both books cost $60 (I have both), but the sybex is a better value in terms of coverage and that it also covers the SAFE exam.
