| Does anyone know about a PIX simulator? or can recommend a inexpensive pix module to buy. Already a CCNP, CCDP, and looking to tackle the security portion. | |

| The best way to go is to get an Intel SE440BX-2 motherboard, a pile of Intel S82557 NICs (4), a simple ATX desktop chassis, P3-850 CPU, 384MB SDRAM and upgrade the motherboard's BIOS to P17 and there you have a nice new, high-speed frankenpix....with one exception. You're going to need the FLASH upgrade unit for a PIX 520. Part number PIX-FLASH-16MB=
The flash board will run about $700, and the rest is less than $300.
I'm currently on a quest to find out what hardware is used in an IDS version 4220 or 4230. It's also just a PC, but I can't find any info on how to Frankenize it. If anyone out there has access to one of these units, open it and see what motherboard and NIC models are used along with what special cisco hardware is used (usually a PCI or ISA board of some kind). Get the part number of the Cisco board(s). | |

| I'll sell you my PIX 501? Passed my CCSP and don't really need it anymore. | |

| Hmmmm, very interesting...but I think I have convinced my work to pick one up.
What are you wanting for it?
Thanks! | |
