I'm using Syngress's MCNS v2 and Cisco's 12.2 security and 12.3 update eBooks. They ROCK. I test out on Tuesday. Using only these resources, Boson's tests, and the Test King, I'm fairly sure I'll be ready. I've built this stuff in the lab until I'm blue in the face. The only part that really sucks is the Cisco ACS v3 - I hate that software. It'll take the rest of my life to figure out all of those clicks and boxes. Funk's SBR v4.04 is great, but I can't figure out the return list attributes and how to get it to prompt the client for an http login. If anyone has tried this, please let me know the details. Also, has anyone ever gotten Auth-Proxy to work with local authentication (where you type in the username/passwords into the router)? I can't get it to work.

Moderately difficult. Boson's MCNS Test #1 is GREAT for this exam. KNOW how to build an IPSec tunnel between two routers with shared keys from memory - you'll have to do it in a simulator. Sometimes you only have to configure IKE, sometimes only IPSec, but most of it's there. Know what a correct AAA statement looks like, know the Management Center for VPN Routers very well (many questions on its functionality). Test King is worthless on this one. Cisco's 12.2 mainline IOS security eBook is the best book out there for this exam. Second best is Syngress MCNS. If you don't get the Boson MCNS exam(s), 'good luck' because you aren't likely to pass this one on the first try without it.

Hi,

you can't do a auth-proxy with your local database. auth-proxy only works with tacacs+ and radius .
Lock and Key works with local databases .

regards

wim

ps: Does anybody know if they ask a lot of questions about ACS at the mcns exam ?
I can't get my hands on that software ,so it's quite difficult to study

Working on the CCSP too -- when it comes to using a router for practicing, any opiniops on models? I picked up Lammle's new book and it references a 2600 -- I was hoping for something I could pickup for a bit less (like a 2500).

Cool link but no COO access

Thanks!

Definitely the 2600 and 3600 series. The more ethernet ports the better.

Hi Devinator,

On a prior message, you said:

"know the Management Center for VPN Routers very well (many questions on its functionality)."

Can you please tell me WTF is that "Management Center for VPN Routers" , and where can I get info about it?

Thanks in advance.

Ok, but that is not an exam objective for the MCNS 640-100 exam, so you must be talking about the new exam, aren't you?

Regards,

Sergio.
