Can anyone point me in the right direction as to the recommended self study reading material for the CCSP exams. Should I go though the cisco white papers. If so, can someone be kind enough to provide the urls. Also, is there an order in taking the different exams or does it not matter. Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks,

Hi, you can take exams like this :

MCNS
CSPFA
CSVPN
CSIDS
SAFE

for me, the base of learning are cisco press books (old and new) and a lot of pdf files from cisco website. I've posted a thread with pdf names but not the link for MCNS but not the urls.

Do them in the order shinji listed for sure. Use the Cisco SAFE whitepapers for SAFE exam plus remember both IOS and PIX IPSec VPN configurations.

Use the Cisco whitepapers (eBooks) for MCNS and PIX - they are great. Syngress books are also great for MCNS and CSPFA.

Some of Cisco's eBooks are nearly 600 pages long, but worth reading every page. Additionally, I would suggest both a PIX 501/506E and/or a FrankenPIX or two. The FrankenPIX will run $1k total for the biggest, baddest box you can make it. I highly suggest a couple of 2611 series routers plus IP Plus with FW IOS. Make sure your 2611's have lots of flash and DRAM. You'll need an ethernet (10baseTx) hub for sniffing between the routers and some packet analysis software.

It would be great if you had at least 3 computers for your lab. One to sniff, one as a client, and one as a server. Some crossover cables will come in handy. Some cheasy webserver software would be great - like AnalogX (free). 3Com's 3CDaemon (free) is great for FTP and TFTP.

Yeah I think Devinator said all you need!!
the IOS version on the router has got "T" like 12.2.8(T)

to make a complete CCSP lab you need
a VPN 3002 concentrator client
a VPN 3000 concentrator serie
a VPN client
a PC with HIDS
a Cisco IDS
and what Devinator said

but I think it's too expensive
If you want to pass the exams take all documentation you can on cisco website and learning, learning, learning.....

hope this helps you

Here's my gear/software list:

3002 VPN hardware client
VPN client software
3005 concentrator
2611 router with FW IOS
3640 router with FW IOS (2 FE, 4E modules)
PIX 506E with 6.3.1 code
FrankenPIX (in progress)
3 Laptops
10basetx hub
2912XL switch (with latest code available)
Wildpackets Etherpeek NX
ACS v3.1 trialware (cisco.com)
PDM v3.x
VMS bundle trialware (cisco.com)

I had some, bought some (though ebay and a cisco employee friend), traded for some, etc.

What I'm missing:

4210 hardware NIDS
HIDS software (i haven't gotten to this exam yet)

Hope this helps.

dude,
you're well on your way to a ccie security lab. check out the book ccie practical solutions security and see what they recommend.
your not far off
a 3350 and a pix 515 for dmz interfaces hits hard.
