CSIDS 643-531 - Did not pass... but

| Took the Beta exam. I know what I was lacking on, now I just have to try and find the information I need to Study. Did not fail by that much. Needed a 790 to pass, got a 690. I think I am going to schedule it for Friday.
Surprise was they had TWO simulations!
58 questions total - 90 mins.
Something is up with Cisco's site as I can't get to it at all! Of course when I am really tryin to study.... o well. I will let you guys know how I do.

| Dan,
Can you tell me what materials you're using for study? This exam is based on the new 4.0 courseware and complete rewrite of Cisco's IDS code. I'm under the assumption that the 3.0 courseware, study guides, practice tests, etc are useless for this exam. Is this assumption correct or misled? Your feedback is greatly appreciated. I've got the 4.0 courseware on order, but it must be on a slow boat from China...

| I did use the 3.0 courseware. It is no good for anything related to CSPM, the old sensor (version 3.1), or any PIX or Router stuff - none of that is on the test.
I would focus on IDSM, IDMC, IEV, the new version of the sensor 4.0/4.1, how blocking works, you have to know the command line on the sensor..... and lots of other things. I go based off the official testing outline:
Cisco outline
Then I used the online information and documentation for the IDSM, IEV, IDMC and other things. Now that I took the test I know what I need to focus more on.

| Did you get a chance to take the new exam again? I've finally gotten to this exam. I have been studying/taking others. I have the new 4.0 courseware, but do not have a 4215 or a simulator for the new 4.0 code. There's no practice tests, braindumps, study guides, etc...only courseware. That's going to make it tough I'm sure. I'd like to hear how you did on the exam, areas of concentration that I should pay attention to, Cisco-specific docs to concentrate on (like their whole-book PDF configuration guides and such), etc. Any feedback would be helpful. I wish I had an IDS running 4.1 but that's unlikely given the cost. Ebay is devoid of used recent versions like the 4215. Bummer. | |

| How’s Ciscopress book "Cisco Secure Intrusion Detection System" by Earl Carter. Does this book match’s exam (643-531) requirement as you have attempted once.
Can you list some on more topics relevant to exam apart from your previous post? Ciscopress book is very fat 900+ pages.
Thank you

NO! This book is right now on my desk. Is very well written, but unfortunatelly, it does not address the exam.

Dear “didierd”
As you have already attempted this test once can you list some important topics from exam point of view?
Any suggestions/comments will be appreciated.
Good luck to everyone.
