Here is the setup:

2 WinXP Home Desktops
1 WinXP Pro Desktop
1 Windows 2003 Server Enterprise

All in a worksgroup named MSHOME.

Just installed the win2k3 server and setup it up as a printer server and file server. Installed a HP officejet on it and shared it out. All computer can browse find the server, see the shared printer a connect to it. Prior to connecting to it though it asks for authentication (username/password). Used the admin account to to auth and then the printer driver installed printer shows up and test pages prints. Printing there after works just finde. Prior to this the other half says that the shared computer (WinXP Pro) that was sharing the printer to the other computers never asked to authenticate to the printer, or view shared file and folders.

My question is, can it be configured to allow users who are working from the WinXP Pro and WinXP home computer to print with out requiring the user to browse to the server listed in workgroup and then authenticate each time prior to printing?

I made sure the everyone group has full access to the printer.

Any thoughts?

Also, on the WinXP Pro simple file and print is turned off.

Based on what ur asking, the quick answer would be, authenticating the log-in's on the W2K3 server, during log-on on the workstations (ie. Using a Domain and logging onto that) however the user profiles on the machines might go screwy.

A work-around might to allocating permissions to everyone (Including Guests), access to the printer.

in a workgroup you would need to have the same username/password combo on the workstations as on the server.
