| Hi all,
Long time lurker, first time poster (always wanted to say that.....)....
Well, I have been an MCSE since 97, way back with NT4, and never bothered with exams since. Wrote 290 this past Friday, and I will repeat what everyone else has said....ouch. But, my final score 735, so all was well....now, my two cents on the exam.
1) At my work, I set up a sandbox with 4 servers and 3 workstations. Do whatever you can to make your own sandbox, cause it really helps.
2) Like all tests, they are easier if you know what they will test. Read the Microsoft objectives for 290, and make sure you have a handle on everything they state. Then you will be ok. As for the test, they really liked to ask on disaster recovery and rights/permissions....so ensure you know that very very well.
3) When did Microsoft get an English degree? Man the questions were long. On the NT4 track, I remember one of the questions was "What tool is used for creating users in an enterprise environment" or something along that line. I like the fact that it took more than 15 minutes to write it though...makes the $125 seem like a little less of a waste.
4) This should get a rise, but the following is the truth. A guy I used to work with at a big consulting firm came over Sat. night to ask on the exam, as he wishes to write as well. He brought a March 04 testking cram sheet with him. For the heck of it, I looked, and there were 90 questions there, or something like that. And I only saw 4 questions that I saw on the test. I laughed and gave it back to him. Morale of the story? Don't waste your money, or give yourself a false sense of pride....do what you did in school....learn it.
As for studying from a book, I used the Syngress book to help me with the MS way. It is funny, my way is a bit different in some aspects - like making sense.....(remember that for the test as well...it is the MS way or no way!)
One q i will ask, to see if someone can point me to an article or something along that line. Either I have fallen off my chair and hit my head, or just completely missing something, but one question dealt with backups with a tape secure error. Thought i knew what it was but none of the answers corresponded to that. Would someone know of an article on something along this line? It is nagging my brain...
But, good luck to all, and now that I have begun posting, hope to not be too much of a stranger....enjoyed reading most posts, and maybe can add in a few more cents later...
