There's a security specialization for MCSA & MCSE 2000, but I cannot find any info on a security specialization for 2003. I'm WAY away from my MCSA, much less MCSE but I was planning my strategy and wanted to incorporate security and also be updated to 2003. Here's my two possible plans:

Plan 1
1. Attain MCSA 2000
210
215
218
A+
Net+

2. Up to MCSE 2000
216
217
220

3. Up to Security
214
Security+

4. Up to 2003
292
296

Plan 2
1. Attain MCSA 2003
210
290
291
A+
Net+

2. Up to MCSE 2003
293
294
298

3. Up to Security ???
298 ???
Security+ ???

I'm guessing that if there is or will be a security specialization for 2003, that test 70-298 will qualify, being that it is Designing Security for a MS Server 2003 Network (70-220 Designing Security for 2000 Network works for MCSE 2000 Security requirements).

My second plan is the preferred one, with 2-3 less tests, but again, I cannot confirm the requirements for the Security specialization for MCSE 2003. Any info would greatly be appreciated! Thanks!!

There hasn't been anything mentioned in regards to :Security for the Win2k3 track, except that eventually there might be one.

Personally, here is what I would do:

Plan 1
1. Attain MCSA 2000
210
215
216
218

2. Up to MCSE 2000
217
220
214

3. Up to Security
Security+

4. Up to 2003
292
296

The A+ and Net+ combo can be considered electives only for MCSA. Security+ can be considered an elective for MCSA and MCSE.

Thank you, TB. If I get my MCSA with A+ and Net+ as the elective, I will still have to take another elective if I want to up to MCSE. This I did not know for certain, wish I knew earlier (just got my A+ this week) And I'd have to take 214 regardless if I do :Security, so I'm in for 8 MS exams any way I look at it. I suppose it can't hurt having the CompTIA certs, I see you have them in addition to your MCSE.

Other than the extra CompTIA's, I'm glad to see my original plan matches your suggestion. I know that by the time I get my MCSE2k MS might have :Security for 2003, but I like having a set plan to work towards, even if I have to modify it down the road. Thanks again!

Not a problem.

Additional certs never hurt, as long as your wallet can afford them.

As a side note, the Security+ can be used as an MCSA and MCSE elective, should you so wish.

Cheers,
TB
