I just purchased the Upgrading 70-292/296 training kit from mspress and it seems pretty relevant for the 292 exam.

I just took the 299 beta. I used the applicable sections from the MS Press Upgrade book plus a lot of other material for Windows 2003 that I have gathered from MS and others. One thing I have to say about the beta exams I have taken for 2003 (290,291,297,299) is that they run deeper than the books.

Pretty much any good book from a reputable publisher is a great start. Use it as an outline for your studies, not the sole source of information. Look to get a lot of hands on. Keep going back the the exam objectives and course descriptions from the Microsoft Training and Certification site.

Also, when you are working through examples from a lesson in the book or encounter material that you are not 100% on, follow up with Knowledge Base and Technet articles.

What I'm trying to say is this: The book might show you how to install and configure something and provide a troubleshooting matrix, but the test will read like you have installed it a bunch of times and had it running for better or worse for months.

Don't be afraid to go too deep and denfitely get more than one server up with the various services covered by the particular exam. Definitely have one or more clients connected to these servers and be logging in both with administrative credentials and user credentials. Has Microsoft made these exams a true measure of experience and knowledge? Probably not, but these exams are better than the 2000 exams.
