I'm totally new to this forum. If you want to prepare for MCSE Server 2003 certification exams, would using Small Business Server 2003 be sufficient? I don't know if there's big enough difference between the 2 for the exam purposes. Thank you.

The SBS exam (70-282) is nothing like the Server 2003 exams.

Learning about SBS and taking the exam is great if you plan to deploy SBS or are currently working with it; otherwise, 282 is just an easy elective for MCSE on 2003.

SBS in itself is a great product and any small business with 75 users or less that will not expand past that point for 3-5 years should look into it IMHO.

Using SBS definately gives you a good understanding of things like Active Directory, Group Policy, etc. Because SBS (and all its integrated features and apps) reside on one server, working only with that product will not expose you to other concepts of larger networks (e.g. Replication, Sites, Forests, Trusts, etc.)

If you are serious about pursuing your MCSA/MCSE on 2003, I would start with 270, then move onto 290 and 291. I would suggest a lab with at least two W2K3 servers and several clients.

As I have learned, however, there does not seem to be a substitute for real work on the job experience. Perhaps this was not the case with Windows 2000 exams, but the 2003 exams I have taken suggest otherwise.

As for study aids, MS Press books are good. SO are ExamCram2 and Syngress titles. Hands on experience is key, especially as you move onto the Infrastructure and Design exams.

Good luck!
