I'm working towards my win2k mcse: security cert and will eventually need to upgrade to win2k3 but microsoft has no security specialization listed for win2k3. So would the security specialization go away or would it carry over to win2k3?

You will retain it with your MCSE 2000 Security. They will probaby carry over some of those exams to a Security Designation for 2003 when the time comes. But it still certainly has value.

So when I get there I'd be
mcse: security win2k
mcse win2k3
until they offer a security specialization for win2k3.

sounds good

That's correct. I have not checked, but expect to see Security designation soon as 298 is just being released and 299 is beta testing right now.
