| I'm probably dead meat, since I never tried 219 or 221, but someone has to lower the bar after animals like JB tear it up.
Exam Date/Time: 13-Aug-2003 11:00 AM
Exam Name: Design a MS Win Server '03 Active Directory & Network Infras
Client/Exam Number: Microsoft 071-297

Thanks! | |

We just recieved the july Technet cd here at work. Has alot of w3k stuff relating to 71-297! yay.
| Tarzanboy 2003-07-22, 6:51 pm |
| Good deal.
Pretty much it looks like I will be digging through the M$ site, the 2k3 Server Help, reviewing my old 216 & 217 stuff, figuring out where the changes are in 2k3, giving the once or twice over on 219 and 221.

Jeff,
I am taking this one on Aug. 14th. I am currently deeply involved with 70-228 so I am just going to skim over any 297 material I find and go in "blind". Since it won't count for anything, but it's free, I figured what the hell. I don't expect to pass, but you never know. Good luck to all who take this one...

| I was thinking about taking it on the 14th myself but haven't had a chance to schedule it yet.
Last week I went to a week long Windows 2003 training at New Horizons. We covered the basics and a lot of AD. You've got to check out the new Group Policy Managment tool. It's a free download from MS. It puts a whole new light on GP management. It will also work on a W2k network if you install it on XP with .NET framework installed.
Good luck all. | |
| jeff_j_black 2003-07-30, 6:14 pm |

| Hey I am new here ..i need some materials to study i am on the 7th for my 297 exam here in Vegas.. so if any of you have any idea on some brain dumps or somehting that ouwld be great..
john94si@yahoo.com | |
| ghaouf 2003-07-30, 7:31 pm |
| first of all shame on you asking for braindumps.
and the best part is that you are an ediot there is no books for the exam how will you get braindumps.
were you invited? seems no, with only A+
| john94si 2003-07-30, 7:43 pm |
| Hey .. F-YOU.. call me an idiot you dont know me.. and I dont know you. so you have no room to call me anything especially for only having A+ ..I have years of experience hands on.. not like many of these paper cert kids running around.. !!!
wow this is sure a friendly site.. and I hope you dont welcome others like this..
Yes I meant braindumps in like if anyone has some questions for samples.. thats all .. i know the test isnt out yet but maybe someone else has something they found..
| jeff_j_black 2003-07-30, 8:15 pm |
| There are interactive questions for Windows Server 2003 on the Microsoft Website. And if you follow the link to the Deployment Guide above, you will find the neccessary documentation to prepare for the exam. That's all the dumps I got. | |

6 Case studies 40 minutes a piece.
1 "Who is the PDC emulator" question per case study.
A few DNS and OU Organization questions per study.
Stub Zone and Conditional DNS Forwarders questions.
A VERY long Exam. Not a lot specific to Win 2003.
I will find out if I passed in 8 weeks or so.
Good luck everyone. | |
| ghaouf 2003-08-11, 3:35 pm |

how long was the case studies. i am also not expecting to pass, did not have the time to study for it but it sucks that you will know in 8 weeks. but its free
so was the exam hard, or just never ends. 4 hours.
| jeff_j_black 2003-08-11, 5:37 pm |
| lucidreality...
Thanks for the status report, we wish you well on passing. It is hard to walk away from the beta exams feeling anything but bewildered. That long of an exam is grueling! I sat the 290 and 291 and both were every bit of the four hours to get through with 85 questions each.
| cukong 2003-08-11, 6:22 pm |
| Oh boy,
The exam was hard
each study case was long and contain tons of details. If I had a good background with MCSE or Network+ maybe I could pass this test. and 8 weeks notification just plain suck.

| Well this was certainly the easiest of the three beta exams for 2003 that I have taken. lucidreality's description of the exam was pretty much complete, I have nothing to add to it. It was just very reminicient of 70-219, with a few network oriented questions tossed in. I will be very surprised if I find that I did not succeed on this one. As a tip to those that will take this when it comes out for the general public, the materials from the Windows Server 2003 Deployment Guide are what you need to study.
Another thread, about half-way down...
Best of luck to those of you that are still pending!
By the way ghaouf, I am disappointed you did not go.

| Phew, I'm glad that's over with!
A brief summary:
6 scenarios with 40 minutes alloted to each.
Number of questions per scenario ranged from 11 to 15.
No "ALL" tab to view all interviews in a given scenario on a single page, I had to click through each interview (& sub-interview items) seperately!!
My scenarios all seemed heavy on DNS, DHCP & Organizational structure.
My self-assessment...
I most likely failed
Back to prepping for 216!!!!!

That was indeed also my experience. Also a little bit about VPN and Radius server/clients. All in all it was hard to find the big differences in regards to 70-219 apart from a completely new graphics look.
Most probably flung. ( I've been used to some extra time in the "normal" test as a "..non english in a non english country" so actually the time ran out in some of the cases.
Good luck to all still awaiting the test.

| Well, things went from bad to worse:
Test crashed in the 2nd testlet...it took one hour and a call to Prometric to get it started again where I left off.
Then, I was breezing through this thing. When I got up to about the 10th question in the 5th testlet, the power went out. So thats where I'm at.
I have to call the test center today to see if I will be allowed to finish it up even though yesterday was the last day for the test to be delivered.
No idea if I had any chance in passing this thing, but I would like to finish what I started anyhow.
I will also be calling Prometric to see if I can get a free exam out of this since the test crashed way before the power took the hit.
I'll keep you updated...
P.S. My test was set up like the others: 80 questions, 6 parts. Same objectives as others have mentioned before. Definately a challenge just to read and absorb all the organizational info they throw at you. It seems to be a good test, although some of the drag and drops are lacking proper/clear instructions (unless I totally have no clue about the material which certainly is a possibility).

The exact same happened to me yesterday too! except my testing app crashed after each testlet and it would take around 45 sec for each question to load, all together it took me almost 5hrs to complete the test. Im glad that im finnished it though. I dont think I passed.

| Well the votes are in, Time for the test centers to upgrade their equipment, along with the power companies!
Well there's not much I can say in consolation except, that the study effort you put forth will definitely help out in one of your future endeavors.

| Got a free voucher from Prometric that I used to schedule the 218 that I need anyway and planned to pay for in the next few weeks, so this worked out well so far.
Some people got a voucher from Microsoft too, but Microsoft directed me to Prometric after Prometric had passed the buck to Microsoft. Not bad for an hour on the phone.
Anyway, have to try to contact my testing center to see if they will attempt to let me finish the beta or not.
| jeff_j_black 2003-08-15, 12:25 pm |
| Congrats!!! That is quite a consideration! You did indeed reap a benefit from your attempt. | |
| isles1 2003-08-15, 2:14 pm |
| Went down to my testing center and they have not even been able to bring the servers back up yet.
The facility's guy says at this point MS will likely just write it off based on the circumstances.
Attempting to complete it at this point would likely be a waste of another hour or so since the cut off day was yesterday.
Also, when the center called Prometric yesterday to troubleshoot my exam, the CSR scheduled me for 8/14, 9am in Albany in addition to my 1pm test that was already in progress. Try and figure that one out since I am on Long Island.
Any harm in having a no show on your record? I mentioned the obvious error to another CSR and got little more than a confused response.
Well, at least I got the free exam for the time spent at all this.
Thanks for all who helped along the way.

At least from my experience with the transcripts on the VUE website, a fail listed there may not indeed be a fail. Their site listed my status for 71-291 as fail, but when the scores came out I had passed.

| Well, finally! And sadly I did not pass. Just checked the VUE website and 'taken' changed to 'fail'. I have not recieved the score report yet. This was a great beta exam learning experience though.
And for those that take it live, the Deployment Planning Guide is a real treat. Lots of great insights from real 2k experiences have filtered back to make the 2003 DPG much more specific and informative. Best of luck to those that take this one in the future! |
