Just recieved my Inside Scoop to CompTIA Cert Security + by Tcat. I have to say the book seems to be much more in depth then the Sybex. The 5 chapters cram Sybex 10 chapters into more detailed chapters. What I get confused on is I read Sybex the first 3 chapters and I just started to read Tcat and I am curious as to which one has the right stuff to pass. The topics for example Sybex goes right to the point and Tcat is more in depth especially about MAC and DAC for an example. I don't know if that means more nonsense and Sybex is what you need to know to Pass straight up? What do people prefer? I just don't want to read one and not have enough info and I also don't want one which is more nonsense then what you need to know. There are alot in Barnes and Noble books with pass the first time in Security + but what is the best? I also have the PrepLogic Audio Cd's I don't think they are the greatest I started to try them out they are ok but I expected a lil more. Prep Logic I can't see anyone passing w/o other resources.

Inside Scoop is more focused on the true objectives of the exam. Sybex has quite a bit more fluff. don't get me wrong. I used both for my exam. I always like to get the info from more than one source, but you'll find more meat in Tcat's material. It sinks in better, for me, if I get more than one explanation.

I also used Exam Cram2 for more intense review. Don't waste your time on the Sybex Instuctor CD. It will only put you to sleep. I got the PrepLogic practice tests back when they gave it away last halloween. Tcat's test sim is good also. Pick up a few of the free study guides available around on the net.

I like using Sybex to get introducted to a certification, but like Supertech said, there is a lot of fluff (check my last two topics). However, TCat's is appearing to go above and beyond the call of duty so I use both books to keep the other in check. They are a good one-two combo and I hope it will help me pass on Mar. 24.
