Sec+ passed, first attempt (828)

| About a week ago I hadn't even heard about this cert. Read the overview at the CopmTIA site and saw that I knew most of this already. Studied through the weekend with the Sybex guide, MS Press (didn't like it much, but there were some nuggets) and whatever info I could get my hands on via web (including RFCs).
Took the test today, finished in about 30 minutes and got an 828 score. I could *almost* have used my 1-hour train pass back home again but decided against it since getting stopped with a bad ticket today would ruin my good mood.
The stupid Prometric application first displayed a note that I had 90 minutes to do the 100 questions and then proceeded to count down from 1:59:59! Of course, I don't know if I could have spent two hours there.
I didn't find Security+ questions any more confusing than the other certs I have done.
I don't want to sound arrogant, but the high fail rate has to be from people taking courses without having a desire to play with security. If you have ever done a Nessus scan of your firewall or regularly use a network sniffer, you will just have to cram some definitions and stuff.
About the test; no particular questions I remember as "bad", some were obvious. All of them were "choose 1 correct out of 4 possible answers".
Good luck to all of you, and thanks for the help you all give in this forum! | |
