Passed 1st try. Thanks for the assistance you all gave me. I was stressing over this exam, and I didn't really need to. It wasn't to hard. I used the Syngress Sec+ book & DVD, along with Transcenders. I highly recommend the book, but not the DVD. Don't waste your time watching it. You'll see what I mean after you've seen about 5 min. of it.

Congrats again...

Yes, execellent job!

Do the Trancender Sec+ questions appear to be similar to those on the actual exam? I used the Boson exams, and while the questions were very good, they wern't close to the flavor of the actual Sec+ exam questions.

Congrats.
I'm scheduled to take the test tomorrow morning and I've been stressing about it as well. I've read the Syngress book and agree that the DVD was worthless. I've also read TCat's free pdf and watched the CBTNuggests videos. I've taken a Preplogic and Transcender test. I skimmed the Microsoft Security + book as well but I'm not extremely confident. I was wondering what suggestions you might have (ports, wirless, cryptography, etc.) that I should brush up on. Thanks in advance and, once again, CONGRATULATIONS!!!

The best recommendation I would say is know the ports for tacacs, radius, dhcp, and dns. I had questions that covered all these. Also know IPSEC very well, which keys fall under symmetric & assymetric. Other than that you should be fine. The transcenders questions were good to make sure that I knew the material. The questions weren't close to the actual exam.

In all of the Security+ study literature I read, I think the only asymmetric encryption algorithms that were covered were RSA and El Gamal. All the others were either symmetric or hashing algorithms. And I think MD4, MD5, and SHA-1 were the only hashes mentioned.

There were no other asymmetric or hashing algorithms mentioned on my Sec+ exam.
