I have been taking CompTIA certifications for almost 2 years now, starting with the A+, and have been at this forum since then. Ever since I have passed my A+ I have been eyeing this certification and putting it off. Well now is the time for me to take the plunge and begin preparation for this exam. I plan on using the Sybex Security+ Study Guide to get me started in this, as Sybex as proven itself a good starting ground for my Net+ and Linux+, and then I plan to cement these theories with the Tcat book, thanks Lewy04 for recommending. Unfortunately I have been following these forums for a while and seem to see more dissappointment from this CompTIA exam then any other. This why as opposed to my ritualistic 1 month of studying, I will try to study longer and harder. I will take the test and I will pass, this is not an option. What I am asking from you guys is any advice, such as tough areas or hands-on experience that I should practice, before taking this exam. From What I am told this exam is mostly book learning, which should not pose a problem, but my habits make me want to do things hands-on. Any help that you guys can offer would be greatly appreciated.

PKI, certificates, Key management, organizational security

Know what's symetric & what's asymetric.

For hands-on, you might drill down into certificates a little. Click on that little lock in your tool bar and see what it tells you about a certificate.

I tried to read the same material from as many sources as I could find. It reenforces the info and you might pick up little details that one might gloss over.

Good luck!
