Wow - basic networking 101

Ports 137, 138 & 139 are NETBIOS

Name Service - Datagram Service and Session Service respectively.

Why do you get requests? Because 1 or more machines on your network are using the NETBEUI protocol. Commonly found installed as default in 9X machines.

I am sure it was in jest, but sometimes, that's hard to discern in an online forum format

Yeah, and a lot of people lurking haven't gotten their Net+ cert yet; so "basic networking" may mean it's something you ought to know, but me, with my A+ and nothing else yet, there's no particular reason I ought to know that.

the original poster has MCSE as their certification, they SHOULD know the answer to their own question.
