Author Taking Test Next Week

Im taking the security+ exam on Wednesday... I started with the Career Academy CBT (which I wouldn't recommend). From there, I went to the MeasureUp sample test which I passed.

Reading here, I saw the test is not very representative of the actual CompTIA exam, so I got the Security PDF file from here and took those practice tests. As well, I got the Transceiver practice test, and the Boson practice test (#3).

Any other advice??

If you have the TCAT PDF, look at that...
and focus on what are called the wise owls.
I know TCAT is based in CA, so perhaps you could get a copy, although it would take a few days to get it covered.

Remember your PORTS! Easy marks to get.

Other than that, take your time, read the questions and ask youself, what on earth are they asking me? You will be fine...

Thanks for the info. I tried to purchase TCAT's Pdf, but the host server is having a problem (maybe they need to read the pdf?).

Shame though... I would rather avoid having to take the test twice ...

You can email Tcat at tcat@tcat.net

I have it, but firstly it is very big and secondly, I think it is only fair that TCAT and his co-authors get a small cut, as someone else said, the man has gota eat!

Drop him a line, marked urgent and he will direct your path... He should be about this weekend, unless he is burning rubber on the highway somewhere..

Wish you the best of luck...

I know the guy has recently moved address, so the server may be indeed off line...
Again, email him, he will sort you out if he gets it in time.

The server finally responded and I was able to get it. I am a little dissappointed though, and wanted to share...

I thought I was getting that PDF last night, and ended up getting the practice exam and the pdf of it.

The order site was somewhat confusing, and I wasn't exactly sure what I was trying to purchase, so I ended up spending more money than I wanted to (bad for me, good for them eh?).

It looks like the practice exams were taken from the Wise Owls though (my perception) so it (practice exam) may prove to be a good resource after all.

Thanks for all of your help!!

ummmmmmmmmmm

This is only a half dozen threads down the page

The beta PDF can be found by searching google for Decypting the Security+ beta exam.

The BIG pdf has been moved to a commerical site. Doing a google with

Tcat PDF security

Will get you that.

Alphageekproductions went down when I did a complete physical move this month. I'm setting up a video studio/sound stage after the new A+ (which SuperTech made a major contribution to) is completed in the next week or so.

Instructors tell me that the Quiz based Sy0-101 study guide/test sim is pretty hot stuff...

If you had taken the time to read the thread index you would have noted that Tcat was the last person to post there - call it forensics or call it research but whatever you call it checking that out would have saved you a lot of time

I read the thread which is what got me to the purchase site. I just confused myself with the shopping cart and purchased the wrong item in ignorance. If you read my message, you would have noticed that.

If I get as many certs as you, do I have to be condesending too?

Good Day...

I didn't mean to be negative, but... I every time I read this thread, I discover my approach is not correct.

If the posters who were not full of crap would kindly identify themselves up front it would save us newbies alot of effort...

Forgive my attitude.. it happens when you spend 30 hours studying for a test that won't even get you a pay raise!

Sorry to have been a little harsh dood, but if you go back through this forum you constantly see people asking the same question. To me that shows either lack of research or just someone being lazy, and Security is NOT a place for either

I may sound harsh, but when this exam first went live I was one of the first to take it - and probably one of the first to fail If I had been patient and waited a few months until some better study material was available I would have saved myself a lot of expense

Well, Im happy to announce that I passed it on my first attempt getting a 780. It was not like I expected, although I was warned that the questions were written to make you really think about your answer.

The one about challange-response made me sit there for a few minutes walking through the CHAP protocol and relating it to all the avialble choices and using a process of elimintation on each.

Well, I suppose I goto Linux+ next, so on to reading the threads for it!
