| Pass the exam and use the link on the CompTIA website to send the information about your exam pass to Microsoft.
Cheers,

| Just noticed something that made me laugh a little.. Your question was:
'How can I get the Security+ as an elective for the MCSA/MCSE'
But I noticed you listed MCSE/MCSA as certifications that you have already obtained? What to think?
me say hrmmmmm....

| he said for "an elective for MCSE/MCSA Security". MCSE:Security is a specialty cert. It is different than a regular MCSE, that requires slightly different objectives to complete (design and electives exams). So you can have both.

Same with MCSA:Security.

| Thanks coyo5050 for the clarity. His response explains how some people fail simple exam. He jumps to conclusion without reading clearly. MCSA/MCSE(Security)is a new addition for security professionals on Microsoft products. If you're MCSE (W2k) certified, you'll need to pass exams 70214 and 70227 or Security+. I have 70214 but prefer Security+ (which is more challenging) to exam 70227. I got my answer from the first reply. So next time read twice before responding. | |

| Don't you also have to take 70-220 (design)to complete the Security specialization? I figured I'd take the security+ exam first, then 70-220, then 70-214 (70-220 completes my regular MCSE req's). I'm curious how much security+ will help me with 70-220...
Security+ test is tomo....

[B]Yes, you do.
Sorry, worded that question funny. I was meaning it to ask if Dee0719 already took 70-220 as the original elective to complete the normal MCSE, or if having to take another design exam to get the new Security+ specialization.

| For clarification sake, I've already taken 70-220 as an elective to the MCSE 2k. I took the accelerated exam (70-240)when it was free and 70-219 and 70-220 to complete MCSE 2k. Exchange 5.5 (70-081)which I have from MCSE NT was counted as an elective. So I took only 3 tests to be certified. When a lot emphasis is on Security I took 70-214. Which I realised now that I should have taken Security+ first. I'm currently reading Syngress book and plan to get Tcat PDF, but I realised that the Security+ is far more challenging and need to know more to pass. Especially the 85% pass mark. Going thru' these forum, some say it's 100 Quest., somebody said 90. Who is right?. I would like to congratulate Coyo5050. A pass is a pass I would not mind 764 pass mark. | |

| Visit the Comptia and find out. I would bet it is 100 questions in 90 minutes. | |
|
| I just came back from the exam. The exam included 100 questions. | |

| Dee0719, what did you think of the 70-220 test? | |
| Dee0719 2003-09-21, 6:38 pm |
| Coyo5050, I have been W2k certified since Aug 2001 but if my memory could serve me right, 70220 was the easiest of the W2k test I took. The test was in form of case study and the questions was full of drags and drops. And to let you know, I'm not that good Security wise. From what I've seen so far, If you could pass Security+, you'll pass 70220 easily. Best of luck. | |

| Thanks for the info! Good luck when you take the Security+ exam! |
