| Hi to all,
This is my first post on this board although I am a regular visitor, so thanks to all the people who come here to help others, I know i got few advices from here and other forums, now i need an opinion, i just landed a real sweet offer as an active directory security consultant, this is going to put me on security track (which is by far the most respected and well paid in my opinion). My question is, would security+ by itself entitle you to be a security specialist?
Thanks guys. | |

| Nope - it would indicate that you have some cognisant skills, but that is about all. CISSP is a more valid certificatuion for a security specialist. | |

| agree with Russ... CISSP is a more respected qualification but none of the certification will make you a security specialist if you don;t have any practical experience at all. | |

| Without a doubt security is a profitable field, but be prepared to make sacrifices. It will require a lot of time and effort, building upon experiences rather than what slip of paper you have. A CISSP is nice and might get you an interview, but it will not guarantee you a job as a network security ubergeek.
If you are genuinely serious about the security field, the Security+ is a decent place to start learning. That's all it is though, a start. Computer security is always evolving, with something new happening every day. If you don't keep up, you're dead in the water.

| One of the most important things to have in the security field is a "Secret" or "Top Secret" clearance
Better to have that then other security certs.
Most jobs will pay for your training providing you can get a clearance. | |

| The trick of course is being in a position to gain a security clearance.
I have a couple of friends that are caught in the cycle of no job without a security clearance, no security clearance without a job.

| IM in that position now.
I was hired but I am waiting for a clearance.
Since it has been 6 months they had to fill the position with someone with a clearance, and I am still waiting. |
