Author Average Study Time?

Hi everybody,

This is for all those who have taken the security+ exam and have passed. My question is “Approximately how many hours did you spend studying for this certification?” The reason I’m asking is because I’ve been studying since the end of May and I’ve been told that it is possible to over study an exam and basically know the material so well that your no longer at the entrance level of the exam. Therefore you would end up answering some questions wrong.

Thanks,
lisa

Not with this one Lisa. The more you know the better off you are going to be - mainly due to the wide range of subject matter and the complexity of cryptography and the depth Comptia is digging in certain areas.

Once you are comfortable that you know the subject matter then book and sit the exam. A quick look through this and a few other forums will show that many of us failed it the first time around due to very weird questions. Be prepared for them by having an open mind and most importantly read the question with "what is comptia asking here?" instead of answering with what you believe to be the correct answer (which it probably was). Although the exam is a ridiculous 100 questions in 90 minutes you should have more than enough time to review any questions that you have problems with.

Read the objectives and make sure that you have covered them all (the microsoft book only covers about 50/60% of them - but does it well), but do not take the percentages for the domains into account as on one of my exams I had about 40% on operational and organisational stuff and not the 15% as stated.

u can never overstudy this.. i read 5-6 books and still came accross some stuff i have never seen anywhere in exam.

make sure u don;t only read one book and try to do lots of practise questions... (boson seems pretty good). when u are confident go book the exam... hope to have some good news from u soon....

I agree with the over-study, you can never
learn too much, you always can learn to little. My advice would be to absorb as much material as possible. There was time I would tend to burn out after a while, but a short break and then back to it. When you feel comfortable with the material, and your
smokin the practice exams it is time. I did spend more time on this one because I did not pass on my first attempt.
