| I have a question for those of you who have passed the Sec+ exam. I have used the following test to practice:
Boson
BeachFront
Security+ for Dummies
Measureup
Preplogic
Syngress online exam
Wiley Test Takers
Sybex
Out of all of the above, which ones do you think were as close to the Comptia exam for Sec+ ?
Thank you. | |

| i will say none?? (if u look at my post u can see what i used and i don;t have access to some practise that u used).
I will say the more Q you do the better it is going to be as i did get some question that's not seen in any books but read them in practise test before (eg there was a Q on lattice based access control or something similar which no books mentioned anything at all)
make sure u really understand how encryption works and what signature is used for etc as i think understanding is what really helps when you get whole deap of poorly written questions...
good luck | |

| I have been useing MeasureUP.... a 150 question base, not very many questions for such a complex area of technology.
I have found alot of information from reading the books and taking notes.
Any exposure is better than none...repetition is learning ..at least I hope as I am looking to test on Friday.
Any more questions that might not be found in books worth deeper research would be welcome

| I am planning on taking this exam in a month or so and am buying the Sybex book today. Also how are the Boson tests compared to the actual exam?
Thanks. | |

| I don't think any Q on Boson was on the actual exam at all.
I personally like Boson exam 2 and 3 better and don't waste your time on Boson 1.
In terms of difficulty i think Boson and the real exam and on the same level?? the only differnece is that questions in the real exam are badly written. I looked some questions are there are multiple answers that seems correct to me but they only want you to pick 1 answer.
Boson is good in a way that it covers all sort of other weird subjects that's not cover in any of those books i read before (you can read my previous post on what book i have read etc). I did actually get some questions in the real test that's not covered in any books but i know i have came accross them somewhere before and when i think more bout it now i think i probably read them in Boson before.
good luck to your exam | |

| I had something to do with PrepLogic, and everything to do with both the free BeachFront Quizzer (beta) and the current title.
For the freebie I took the CISSP approach and just ran "light". CompTIA released the objectives so it was a massive remap in global find/replace to re-map the 10 CISSP objectives to the 5 CompTIA objectives.
Its a good generic trainer that is free.
The current BFQ has a lot of links (just like the books/PDF) and well, in my opinion, too much fluff. It is good fluff, but it is not 100 questions in two or three tests.
I expect I will have the Security+ test sim done my way by the end of the month.

| are you doing a test sim tcat.
ahh u legend.
Will it be free?
I might wait for that one before going ahead with the exam cause i am totaly lost with the other exams, the sybex exams are generaly easy untill the last 2 and the bfq is verry dif. Boston are a bit out of my league as well. damit i can explain any of the exam objectives or criteria but i cant understand questions.
I need help | |

| Actually I was slow to get to this computer (that runs email) because I was at the other computer working on the test sim.
I'm not sure which BFQ you have. I have a freebie out with them now. It was to prepare for the beta exam. It isn't bad. Just not well... highly targeted. BFQ also has one they sell that is Post Beta that I did. It is pretty good, and they like (many) hundreds of Questions. <I don't>.
The one I am doing now is "unannounced". So the folks who bought the big PDF before it IS announced, get it for free as a thanks for paying the ISP bill for me while I work on this stuff. Once it is released, I will be charging seperately for it. I will probably be doing a discounted bundle.
Like all my work of the past couple years, you know exactly what objective I'm hitting (even if it is 3.3.1.2)<Intranet>. And of course web links so you know I just didn't make it up.
What will be different is you will get 100 questions. And there will (sooner or later) be 3 different tests. You will have to answer correctly 77 questions to be 'blessed'. Wonder what that sounds like? ;-)
I plan to release the first 100 this month. I'm going into hiding next week to use the self-inflicted whip to get test sim (s) out the door. On the punch list is Security+, CTT+, and a new A+ that addresses both current and 2003 stuff. I get freedom from test sim hell on the 4th of July. Until then, well I will pretty much only be responding to email that is pushed to me... So if anyone starts a new thread, the odds of me seeing it are very slim...
IF anything hot happens, hit me by direct email. I'll be on dial up hidden in a cave beating the laptop up. Tcat AT Tcat.net
