I thought some of you might find this to be of interest. They still seem to be giving this out over the 35 person limit.

=================

The FBI has identified 4000 ways a hacker can penetrate a network - even
a well protected network. They've issued a report on the top 20
vulnerabilities and how to close those doors to hackers.

1st. the fed didn't scam you... that is a commercial entity distributing a report supposedly authored by FBI...

2nd... there are plenty of info available

from gov you may wanna check

http://www.sans.org/top20/ <-- this is prolly the document they are distributing.

http://www.nipc.gov/cybernotes/cyber2003.htm

http://www.nsa.gov/isso/index.html

anyway... if you are serious about security, you need to identify the source of the information... and that distribution of publicly available document is just silly.

I agree. Seems to me that it was just an email scam to collect addresses. Social engineering to potential security specialists. It might even be to prove someones sick point.

All non classified U.S. documents are free and normally you have to fill out nothing to download them. Only printed documents are sent to you and they come from Pleblo (spelling) Colorado. I have also mentioned the sans site recently as a source for all sorts of useful information.

Update: Ahh I see learnkey is at it again and demanding a phone number also. tsk tsk.

I agree with azimuth40, business is slow and they need new potential customers. You can locate good security info by searching the web. Everything that's free is not always a good thing. Beware of those bearing free gifts. LOL!
