| Hi Everyone . . .
This is just something I found was funny enough to put here. ( especially after completing my Security+ ) We are doing drug and alcohol awareness training at my work, and I am pasting the following excerp from the training text that specifically relates to the collection for drug testing:
The collection process is designed to ensure that nobody spoils or mixes up your specimen. The process is called "Chain of Custody."
Grins. Chain of Custody can be used in so many ways. hahaha.
Something to make you smile.
Peace,
Justin
P.S> Going to do the new PIX Firewall course next. I see a lot of jobs asking for this and it seems like a logical step after a great overview of Security that Security+ has provided. So I'll see ya on the Cisco forum. | |

| Hey justin did you ever pass the security plus?
Yes pix firewall background is nice but remember alot of companies run different firewalls such as out company runs a nortel firewall much different then PIX but it's still all based on rules. So I would suggest getting a computer with two network cards load up linux on this box and start a firewall script along with some IDS software such as SNORT. Now that will get your hands dirty with security. Of course you have to become familiar with linux and how to set up the firewall but it's pretty damn cool. Well that's it for now.
Thanks

| Hi !
Yeah I passed. Took me two times to do it. You know you are right about the Linux stuff. I am looking to get a couple of old towers ~ But you are right to truly understand the scripting portions I think what you are saying is right on !
Just want to keep moving because it is good to take a break after passing a test, but I cannot stay stagnent in a world and industry based on movement and where new technologies are introduced litterally everyday.
Thanks for the good advice !
PEACE

| Congrats!!!!!!! On the exam...
Are you in the field? I know the biggest things for Network Admins is backups and security. Atleast in my eyes Alot of Admins or techs don't want to get into security because it's hard and they would rather have a cake walk. But I have been really focusing on working with tape autoloaders and trying to keep a good amount of time into secuirty too. Trust me we had our webserver hacked before so I try to stay up on patches and keep those public servers in a DMZ zone. We still didn't move over to a DMZ zone because our infrastructure is so big. It would cause alot of problems. But we are starting to plan it out now! Security is the future everything will be on a computer eventually.
thanks

| Yeah, I am in the field. I work as a Network Engineer. Got into the field as an accident about 8 years ago when I was working at an Electronics retailer as a "Cash Counter and Phone answerer " and then all the computer sales people quit. My Mgr twisted my arm, against my wishes, I gave in to him and decided to sell PCs on commision. When I started making $$$, I stuck too it and became interested. Kinda took off from there . . . got into WAN stuff later and then Cisco. What seemed like a bad thing back then was the catalyst of my professional career. Goes to prove that blessings are often in disguise and that opportunity is where you may least expect it.
Presently I see the need for both expertise and diversity in the current and future economy where IT is concerned. Many job adds want an expert, but at the same time require a diversity of skills. Thats my goal. To keep on keepin' on. The power of accurate anticipation can be a great ally in looking at the needs of the industry as a whole. I guess I am sayin' is that too many people drive off the hood of thier car.
Great Luck in Security+, its a good CERT to have + it never expires.
CHEERS!
