Took the exam today

| Hey Fellow Security heads;
I took it today. Oh and get this . . I missed it by what seems to be one question. I scored a 732/764. Ouch, huh ?
That does not bother me as much as the Comptia retake policy. Check this out, this is what isays on the bottom of my score report:
" In the event you failed the Security+ Comptia does not require any waiting period between the first and second attempts to pass such an examination. "
Okay, cool, so I go to register again for a re-take later in the day and I was told by Prometric representatives that they cannot register me again until the score results of the exam are received by Comptia and this is usually one business day.
Hmmmm . . . ya think Comptia might wanna modify that retake policy just a bit ? ? ?

You also might find this interesting; that guy William00d or whatever . ., the questions he is posting on here are from the actual exam, like word for word.

Down to the nitty gritty: I thought I had this licked until I actually saw the score tally. The Microsoft book was great in aid and worded things a lot like the exam did. Tcat's ( free ) was a good tool getting me started. The Mike Myers book had some things in it, but I like my study material laid out in an outline form, whareas the Mike Myers book seemed to kinda ramble on in places.

Honestly, don't know why I did not pass, thought I had this in the bag the whole time. Maybe did not read questions carefully enough ?

Summary: Pretty discouraged that I was not allowed to retake the same day. Balancing in my head weather or not it is worth more time away from my family to study for this because I was so thorough in my studies; and spent so much time. Either way, I got a good education ( even though I did not get the piece of paper that proves it ) and I have the experience and journey of what I learned and I am a better IS specialist whether or not Comptia thinks so.
Peace,

| My condolences Justin - I do know how you feel.
I would be interested to know if you found any questions on things you thought to be a little too esoteric. I think one of the problems with the exam is that they are very vague in their questions - kinda like the one below this post, in that there are 2 correct answers.
It is interesting that you found the MS book a good aid as when I skimmed through it I thought it was lacking in many areas on what I was tested. I guess like many things you found the style easier to understand?
As a matter of interest I did a practice CISSP test and was around 70% - considering I only studied for Sec+ I think that is not too bad and after Sec+ one could move up fairly easily. | |

| RuSS,
Yeah some of the questions were weird. . . Don't know who writes the Comptia stuff. $200 bucks is expensive for a 2nd go.
Have all the knowledge and know how . . just not the piece of paper.
Put my $60 book on half.com for $30 if any one is interested.
Peace,

| Here is a quick cert failing story:
Me, CCNA, old version, passing score, 828 or something like that. I got an 820. I put it off. Then, after a while, there was a job offer that required guess what... CCNA! Well, I rushed and took it again. This time I got an 832 or something, BUT they raised the passing score to 849! (250 bucks down the tube) Well, me being the genious that I am took a different job, and guess what, 6 months later.... Great opportunity... guess what it requires? CCN (freakin) A. Well by now the new version just came out, about a week or so before. I failed the stupid thing.... This is 3 times now. Finally... on the fourth time, I passed that test... New version, price increase and all. I think total, that cost me 550 dollars, and a lost job opportunity, and a big fat headache! I am glad I finally got that stupid thing. It was worth it. You have to go and get it done! The piece of paper is what gets you in the door lots of times, so don't give up! Just put in a little extra time, and you will knock that sucker out!

| Rlrouns;
What a story . . . makes ya appreciate the CCNA a bit more . . huh ? Seems that the more $$$ attached to something the more the value of it is. But even more important than the $$$ is the effort and time. That is where it lies for me
Nothing can be substituted for persistance. There is nothing more common in the world than intelligent people who are not persistent.
I thank my wife and my 5 year old son for showing me. Without them, I could not have ANY of the certifications that I have.
Peace,
Justin |
