This book looks good. It is really a nice one? does anybody already get it for personal use or the Security+ test? I think it is not specially written for the Security+ test, it is?

haha - always true freakster .... however, MS has a czar on the Sec+ advisory group and it appears that no matter what Comptia claims as the percentage for the objectives and the MS bopok only meeting about 50/60% of the published ones that the test was written using the MS book as a guide ... lol

Guys...i did not understand your comments. Freak, can't understand your expression:
"microsoft and security in the same sentence is always worth a good chuckle " English is my 2nd language. What's chuckle?

Is a good book or not? Would like to buy it for my own professional development and for the Security+ test. I'm asking because i do not like M$ books; they tend to be very theorically and boring (IMO). This one appears to be easy to read and not boring.

And??????....

Still have no answer to my question. The book...is good? or bad? I know the book is from M$ Press, but its author seems to be a good one.

People, the only thing Microsoft and Microsoft Press have in common is the word Microsoft appearing on both of their company names. Many years ago Microsoft bought a small publishing company and renamed it Microsoft Press--that is all.

I have never seen an indication that MS Press authors have any special "insider" information on Microsoft technologies (some do, yes, but most don't). If they did then the conventional wisdom among us Windows techies would be always buy the Microsoft Press book first, but this just isn't the case.

JDMurray basicly wrapped it up in a nutshell, MSPress isn't even the first name in Microsoft publications, more or less in other certification areas. Too often have the volumes been written prior to final release, contained too many errors, were too brief or were written by people that were professional writers, lacking actual technical knowledge and experience.

On the positive side, the book has received some praise from others in regards to Windows security and has a name on the cover that has some clout in the Security+ world in Ben Smith. Beyond that, it is doubtful that this book will cover the majority of the areas required for Sec+, although it might prove to be a good reference if you are looking to secure Win2k/XP machines on a network.

Cheers,

Thanks, that's exactly what i needed to "hear". I need this book indeed, because of my work, and i will use as a 2nd Seccurity+ resource. I'm going to buy a specific book for the Security+ test. But still have doubt if buy the Syngress book...or the Tcat. Both appear to be a very good resource for the test itself.

Thanks!
