| HEY ALL I AM WONDERING ABOUT NET SECURITY.WHAT AND WHERE SHOULD I START FIRST AT AS FAR AS CERTS GO? STICK WITH CISCO OR IS IT JUST PREFERANCE? ANY THREAD WOULD BE APPRECIATED | |

| LASIC,
The best place to start depends on where you are now.
You say "stick with Cisco"... are you already Cisco-certified, or do you work with their hardware now?
MS has security exams in its Windows 2000 MCSE track, if you work as an MS network admin.
Firewall vendors like Checkpoint also offer certs.
And of course any number of vendor-independent certs exist. Do you want to demonstrate a broad knowledge base? Do you want to demonstrate something specific like forensics skills? Do you already have some experience and want to get a cert to augment your work background?
Tell us more about where you are now in the industry, and what facets of security interest you, and we can make more specific recommendations.

| hey authorhelen, yes i have my ccna and was curios on weather to stay with a cisco brand of certs or should i just follow my intrests and obtain those that are hot in the IT field.the more i research about the security+ the more i am drawn towards it.i think i'll go for the A+,Net+ and the security+ since they all relate or compliment eachother and hopefully become marketable.thanks for the thread. |
