| Well I noticed fairly quickly I am kinda out of my league here most people in this forum have certs up the kazoo LOL.
What first caught my attention was the similarity of the concepts how closely they
related to the physical security fields they
followed.
Now I have a good bit of experience and training in the physical security fields.or
more appropriately the security penitration fields.
During the Vietnam War I received fairly extensive training and experience in this I
quess I was either good or very lucky, of the 35 of us trained and sent there 27 didnt make it back.
I am really glad to see this takeing off and think it will be an important cert to have entry level or not.
I will continue to monitor this and occasionaly post my impressions and questions.
I am afraid the peolpe issue will always be the greatest security issue in this industry,
It doesnt do much good to have complex passwords and high encryption if authorised users leave their passwords laying around or taped to the bottom of a "secret" place.
Good luck to all. | |

| I don't know about being out of anyones league.
But from my experience you would be a good person to have on a security team.
Having a whiz bang firewall doesn't help if you have 802.11b with the default SSID and no encryption
I think your experience would help a team look at security in ways they might not think of immediately. | |

| dannyboyj,
Set yourself a long range plan and stick with it (will be tough, but put your mind to it)
Mine is as follows:
Sept 2002 A+: done 9/24
Nov 2002: Net+
Feb 2003: 70-210 and 215
Apr 2003: 70-218 MCSA
June 2003: Security+ (books and materials should be out by then and test could be streamlined by then)
Aug 2003: 70-214 Wk2 Security
Oct 2003: begin final preparations for CISSP (have to have 3 yrs security to qualify so this will complete in 2006)
Set yourself a goal (short term and long term plan) and hold yourself accountable to it...and do it. |
