I don't like this response any better than the spam itself. If you want
other people to respect a newsgroup - try it yourself!!!

No, that was a statement.

So, tell me how you justify getting pissed at people for not respecting news
group etiquette, but you don't do it yourself?

It isn't their not respecting news group etiquette that pisses us off.

Apparently that's what pisses you off, though.

So... I guess we may be killing two birds with one stone.

Fris,

I think you are splitting hairs and playing a game of symantics here.
Bottom line is that some people are tired of the spam (I am too). Others
(me too) are tired of the senseless, childlike, profanity laced responses.
We are all tired of people polluting the group and reducing the usefullness
of it. To me, that is the same thing.

There is nothing useful that comes from these responses other than maybe
giving a few select people a cheap thrill. It will do nothing to reduce the
level of spam. It won't make the offender go away. It will not make the
group any better - in my opinion, it makes it worse. While some people may
enjoy a crass response, I'd bet most people would just as soon not see it.

Either way, it doesn't justify the action. If you want this to be a
productive group, treat it that way. By all means, report the offender to
their isp, write a mature response, ask people to protest the offender.
Whatever, just don't pollute the group in the process. That's all - not too
much to ask.

Jim

Ugh... It's ISN'T because it's SPAM. We don't like SPAM, but arguing with
spammers is futile, as most spammers do not come back to read their own
messages, or replies to their messages. This particular scum is spamming
BR@INDUMPS. Can you see why this particular type of posting would be
offensive, far above and beyond any other kind of SPAM?

It's not the same thing. Believe it or not, there are people new the the IT
industry who have no idea what a br@indump is. While some of us refrain
from using profanity when responding to these a$$fsckers (oops, I'm being
profane) sometimes many of us think it's called-for. Sorry if you don't
agree. That's what kill files are for.

We have indeed swayed many a br@indumper from the dark side. If we can help
enlighten even one lost soul, it's worth it. And I know for a fact that
we've helped dozens. Yeah, dozens. I know that's a tiny number in the
grand scheme of things, but there's no telling how many we have indirectly
helped who haven't bothered to tell us so. Hell, I even didn't know what a
br@indump was initially (who would) and joined a Yahoo! group (or club, back
then) when looking for certification information. I posted asking what a
br@indump was and once I got the answer, I rather quickly un-subcribed.

I really don't care so much about this group as I do
microsoft.public.cert.exam.mcse (and the other microsoft cert groups) and we
have managed to get "loyola" and his gang to pretty much stop posting there,
and we did it using pretty much the same tactics, so don't tell me it
doesn't work.

Look, I get your point, but I don't think you get ours. If bad words offend
you, don't read them. If you want a list of who to killfile, go to our web
site and find out who the 42 MCNGP members are. Two of them have passed on,
so you'd only in theory need to killfile 40 of us. Well, Samwise wasn't
much of a poster, and neither was Douglas Adams, but they were great MCNGP's
just the same.

Not because of spam? Go back and read JaR's original response.

But, I will stand by my previous post. You are splitting hairs here. I do
get your point. You know, I'll agree with you that braindumps cheapen the
whole certification process. But, I'll still stand by the response being
inappropriate. By what you are saying, if you don't want to read those
posts, use a killfile on them - so why are you reading and responding to
them? You are using a double standard here. That is what netiquette and
rules are for. Go read your isp's rules. Chances are that there is
something in there saying not to do what you are doing.

The bottom line is that you are responding to an inappropriate post in an
inappropriate manner. They offended you, so you respond by offending
others. There are better ways to get the message across. Just because you
chased him away, doesn't mean it was because you cussed at him. You might
have been just as successful if you were as persistent, but without the
profanity and personal attacks. Until you try civil (but firm) methods of
getting rid of these posts, you can't claim that that doesn't work.

What you are saying is "I don't care if I offend you, but don't do something
that I don't like". Absolute hypocrisy!!!

Try again. Any ISP would tell you to ignore the offending individual or
killfile them. This is usenet, there are no "rules" per se. Only what is
socially acceptable to the particular group.

While we are talking about netiquette, reading before posting is commonly
accepted practice. So anyone who posts about braindumps should be prepared
for the response.

More like "The newsgroup contains language that some viewers may find
offensive. If you post something contrary to the beliefs and purpose of the
group, you will find out exactly what we mean by that."

Actually, no... My ISP contacts customers keeps reports on customers who
have complaints against them and will call the offending customer with one
warning and cut them off if they don't heed the warning.

That would be one ISP in a thousand. How do you think spammers survive if
they didn't have ISPs that allowed them.
