I have been considering purchasing Learnkey's MCSE studyware. Has anyone
out there used it? What did you think of it? Any feedback will be
appreciated.

Spend the money on a couple of computers and some good training manuals.
Set up a lab and use the actual product.

Hi Gary

If you're looking to really learn the material I'd agree with
Catwalker but there *is* more to learning for some than books, lab or
cbts.

My training and learning mentor says "the very best direction to ride
a horse is in the direction its already going"

By that he means that we all have learning strengths and weaknesses as
well as intellectual strengths that lend themselves best to specific
types of study.

I react well to blended learning:

View CBT
Do it in the lab
Skim, Scan and Annotate a book or two

http://www.briantracy.com/catalog/p...21&CategoryID=7
is a link to "Accellerated Learning" which I stumbled upon in usenet a
year or so back, tried it and was really pleased with the results.

I just did CCNA v4 in 30 days from start to finish using Cisco Press,
CBT Nuggets, Learnkey and a lab (4 routers - 3 x 2500, 1 x 1700, 2
switches - 1 1912 ent and 1 2924 ent)

It wasnt easy but it took 4 weekends and a couple of hours a night and
I reckon without accelerated learning I'd not have passed the exam.

In a blended learning scenario I really like Learnkey but they do tend
to dumb it down a bit more than I'd like meaning that I have to
"over-learn" from books and other sources to be sure I really master
it.

Perfect learning scenario for me (and maybe you if you can afford):

Learnkey MCSE 2003 track
MS Press 2003 track or Sybex 2003 track (preferred)
VMWare (especially for clustering!)
A small home lab (with dual ethernet router if you can manage)

et. voila (I am bery blessed to have a company CBT library I can just
go and borrow from)

I'm a few months into doing my 2003 track this way and have 4 / 6
required exams so far taking 293 this week coming to make it 5/6

I'm still dreading 297 !!! but that's speed reading/comprehension
which is another area I love to soap box aout

Good luck!

It's OK. I wouldn't say it's worth the money they charge for it. The
instructors on the video can be a little overexcited which reduces
their credibility. There are integrated labs and skill tests with each
section. I tried the skill test and it was OK. They have some
graphical "point-and-click" questions and if you don't click on exactly
where you need to it flags the question wrong. I also didn't see where
to go back and review what I answered wrong.

The labs are little 3 to 4 step process labs. They are OK for a quick
brush-up of the material, but calling them a lab is a bit much.

The instructor's knowledge is also sometimes wrong. For example: in
the 70-294 video, the instructor makes a special point to say a global
catalog CAN NOT be on the same domain controller as the FSMO
infrastructure role. This is incorrect. If all domain controllers are
GCs, then you can place infrastructure the role on any GC. If you
parrot exactly what the instructor said in this case, you would look
like a fool.

Well, I got to say that I am taking the actual Microsoft courseware at a
tunr of $2200 per week and it dont cover half of whats on their damn tests.

Best thing you can do is use your internet access wise. All the answers are
on the net and mostly free.

Good Luck
