Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2003

| Hello All Technology Colleges,
I would like to ask for your assistance, and opinions on this, before I do a
shotgun upgrade to my test lab. After completed reading MS Press Windows
Server 2003 Administrator's companion book. I fell ready for the upgrade
from Winnt4.0 domain to Win2K3 AD. But, I still feel there's an issue with
the MS Exchange 5.5 migration toMS Exchange 2k3. What would be the best way
for me to upgrade the MS Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2003? I did some endless
search on MS site for migration tools, and 3rd. party white paper, and found
nothing going from Exchg.5.5 to 2k3 without costing money to purchase the
migration tools from 3rd. party sources.
My test lab has 2 Windows NT4.0 domain controllers. A primary dc, and backup
dc that host the exchange 5.5 sp4. And 1 w2k professional, 1 winXp, and 1
Winnt4.0 wkst. I have downloaded the evaluation copy of MS Exchange 2003,
and ready to go. Basically I'm hoping to go full out for Active Directory
with this test lab with Exchange 2003. I have great plans for this test
lab especially OWA, and most importantly understanding more about AD,GPO's
ect...
If I export the .CVS files from Exchange 5.5 and import to Exchange 2k3
after the installation. Will this save my mailboxes setting? What would be
the BEST practices for saving existing emails, address books, ect...I have
installed CA. BrightStor as my backup software. I'm ready for a backup if
necessary or recomend. Will this require a backup below the brick level of
Exchange 5.5 for a full restore to Exchange 2k3 later? What would anyone
recommend, or have prior experiences do this major surgery upgrade from
Winnt4.0 domain, and Exchange 5.5 to Win2k3 AD-Exchange.2k3. Your help is
being very appericated!
Thank you in advance for your opinions, and time to read this post!

Dude
Your best option (since you dont seem to really understand the risks
here) is to build a new Windows 2000 Member Server and Install
Exchange 5.5 into your org and site then do an inplace upgrade on your
PDC (you may want to follow best practice here in doing this) and then
an inplace upgrade your 5.5 to Exchange 2000 followed by an inplace
upgrade to 2003 followed by a move mailbox routine.
Either that or spend a few weeks learning about Windows NT4-2003
upgrades
Glib answer - sorry
