Hi,

I've got two servers in a Native domain. Server A was originally the only
server in the domain until I bought Server B.

Server B has RAID etc and A didn't so it seemed a good idea to do a DCPROMO
on Server B, allow the active directory stuff to replicate then DCPRMO
Server A to stop it from being a DC, clean it up and then put it back as a
second DC. (I haven't had a chance to do this yet, all I've done on A is
DCPROMOed)

All was well until today. I went to add another account. It was it couldn't
conect to the FMSO. So I went into the active directory and changed all the
tabs to point to the Server B, the only DC left in the Domain since I
DCPROMOed the other one.

The only thing is the under the RID Master tab Server A is still listed and
it won't let me change it because it because Server A has been DCPROMOed.

What do I need to do to point the RID Master back to Server B, the current
DC?

Thanks in advance,

James

Click Start, Help, and search for seize RID master. You need to use
NTDSutil.

Thanks for your reply. That seems to have worked but whilst I'm able to
create a new OU if I go to create a new user I get a message saying it
cannot validate the uniqueness ... With a global catalog server because the
server is not operational.

What now? I've tried refreshing the GP but?

Thanks

Ensure the remaining DC is a GC by checking the server's NTDS settings in
ADSS.

I had a look at that and there's two servers in there Server A and Server B.
Server A still has a NTDS tab but no data in there. Server B has a NTDS tab
and data

I've right clicked on the NTDS settings for Server B and changed that to say
Global catalog and that fixed it.

Many thanks for your help,

James
