Re: What is the BIG secret about getting a job. - The Answer - Read & Weep!

| First Guys, Recognize that TIMES HAVE CHANGED!!!
"SUPPLY & DEMAND" is the key here.
Just a few years ago if you could spell the word "PC" you might
qualify for $40,000 a year job!!
During the IT/.Com boom there were WAY more jobs than there were IT
people to fill them! It was a SELLER's market. People were kissing our
XXX to come work for them! We could demand more money, stock options
or whatever! They would even pay for that CNE or MCSE training!
Zoom to 2004..............
THOUSANDS of HIGHLY qualified IT bodies are laid off. Pension plans
cashed out, houses foreclosed on and many bankruptcies filed!!
Guys who were making $50-60-100,000+ a year have been out of work for
months even YEARS! MCSE, CNE,CCNA even CCIE's OUT OF WORK!!
RESULT: It is a BUYER's market! AND these companies know it!!
EVERY job opening brings in HUNDRED's of resumes if not thousands!!
Resume's from HIGHLY qualified IT people! People who are so desperate
for a job, ANY job that they will go to work for $10/12 an hour (or
even less). They will work that crappy desktop job, doing XP upgrades
or answering help desk calls.....
Add to this picture that THOUSANDS of support & programming jobs are
going to India & China via outsourcing!
Oh and don't forget all the zero-experience numbnuts coming out of IT
schools who were told that a "high paying career in IT" is waiting
after they get that A+ or MCSE!! THEY wiill work for nothing!
Employers now can:
1. Demand outrageous amounts of certs/experience/degrees.
2. Demand you tell them EXACTLY how much you USED to make (or we won't
even consider you).
3. Offer you shit money for work that used to worth 100, 200% or more
per year salary.
4. Throw away hundreds of well experienced appllicant's resumes as
they have gigantic piles of them to play with.
I know of onecase where the same job post in 1998 drew only 10 resumes
but this past year the exact same posting drew almost 2000 resumes!!
HOW do you expect to stand out in that crowd??
Face it guys. These companies no longer are interested in training us
or throw lot's of money our way. We are just one more piece of paper
in a mountain of paper/emails....
How to get a job??
A. KNOW SOMEBODY ON THE INSIDE!
B. Have some UNIQUE, hard to find skill/expertise (Mars Rover
Programming language? )
C. Be LUCKY! Sometimes rat XXX luck will put you in the right place at
the right time....
Even if the economy turns around it is unlikely we will see salaries
as high as they used to be. Until this giant pool of IT bodies gets
hired up or moves on to other work the laws of "Supply & Demand" will
prevail against us....
I know many of you know all this but I state it as this thread seemed
to ask WHY WHY WHY??
Just my .02 cents.
Elvis
PS.
Want to see how bad it is?
Go to http://www.XXXXthatjob.com and view some wonderful
job offers people have the audacity to advertise out there.....
Good to a giggle or two.

Uh, I'll send a CV of course. Could they pay the postage, perhaps? I'm
only getting $8.35/hour, and can't afford it.

| Wouldn't you have to be on the Microsoft Development team in order to obtain
that? I wouldn't even want to work for a company that posts that. Facts are
they are very stupid and you would drive yourself crazy working for such
incompetence.
Whats the email of that company? I think it would be funny to let them know
that the language hasn't even been around for that long! ha!
