| i'm really not sure on how ISP's log user IP's.
but for dynamic IP's for cablemodems that aren't permanently assign to a
user's account, wouldn't relying on IP's to prosecute filesharing offenders
be unreliable?

66 year old lady had a reassigned IP from a fileshare offender. i can see
the defense lawyers dancing now.
also if you do pirate music, make sure you have a macintosh laying around
(see posted url).

Nice try, but the logs probably show what MAC address the IP was
attached to during the periods of the alleged activity. Unfortunately,
the music industry has got it so they can bypass the court system and
yank anyone's records from the ISP without judicial review. I think
the music industry should have to go to court and prove probable cause
for EACH case of alleged infringement before getting access to those
records.
And anyone signing any piece of paper coming from the RIAA is plain
stupid. If everyone refused to sign that piece of paper, the RIAA
would have to go to court for each case and they wouldn't want to do
that. So instead they employ scare tactics so the big offenders stop
trying their wares.
