Hi all,

Next week I have been asked to give a tutorial upon login scripts having
drew that topic out of a hat!!!!

There lies a problem here!!!

I have never set up login scripts so I do not know how to do this.

We will be using a Windows 2000 network with one Windows 2000 Server acting
as a domain controller and 4 Windows 2000 Professional client machines. Can
anyone give me some tips/hints/advice regarding how I set these scripts up,
or at least some websites that I can visit that will guide me through the
process.

Thanks in advance,

Craig

Who is your intended audience and what is the rough extent of their
technical knowledge? The length of your tutorial will also play a part
in deciding how much you need to squeeze in.

Login scripts can be used for drive mappings and printer mappings.
In an AD environment it makes it very easy to create a script to have
a uniform network mapping in multiple client profiles [ It is much
easier to create one drive mapping for 100 clients as opposed to doing
it manually 100 times]

A sample login script could be as follows:

[filename=login.cmd]
net use z: \\server1\share1

{You can get help for net use by doing a net use /? at a command
prompt to get proper syntax for printer mappings}

Basically then, in an AD environment you can utilize this login script
in 1 of 2 places:

1. Active Directory Users and Computers, on the Profile tab, User
Profile section, Login script line -----OR------------
2. In a Group Policy, User Configuration, Windows Settings, Scripts,
Logon [be sure to place the login.cmd on a DC]

either of which are set to login.cmd
what would happen when the user logs in, you would see under My
computer which maps drive Z: to \\server1\share1

Hope this helps!

So you work in the IT business and you can not even write a simple shell
script?
