A ad saying that you spend about $6000 and they say they will give you
bunch of MSCE certification. The thing is this real or just another rip-off?
There are bunch of trade school around here offering bunch of computer tech
certification. My question: do these students spend that kind of money with
a bunch of certification get a job??? They say you can earn over $100ka year
just for investion $6,000. Do you know any other got a job after grduation
trade school?

sound like a rip-off to me.

If they're calling it "MSCE" certification, it's definitely a rip off.

A few years ago in some job markets someone with MCSE certification could
get 60K a year. I never heard of an MCSE making over 60K without a degree
and other things.

In today's job market, you need to show up with at least two of three things
to expect to get an interview.
1. Degree
2. Certs
3. Experience

If you don't have two of the three, then forget it.

If you study the school brochure, you will find that the numbers they quote
are a few years old. IT salaries are going down and the jobs are very scarce
in most markets. I suggest you do something else for a living.

MCSEs with many years of commercial experience and the right skill-set can
earn that sort of money.
MCSEs with no commercial experience find it almost impossible to get a
help-desk job.

The "average" MCSE might earn $70k, but the "average" Ferrari driver earns
even more - so if you want the big bucks, save up for a new car.

Don't know about the US , but in the UK you will find it hard to get a good
job with just an MCSE unless you have a degree and/or experience. Note that
this does not need to be *paid work* experience , but several years of a lot
of use of MS products and networking.
Also , as for salaries , you will be lucky to start on 25K UKP which is
about 40k USD. In a few years time with more experience and extra
qualifications you will be a lot better off , but not at first.

These kind of trade school are very popular. They seem to rip people
off.
I saw a they put a old black woman in front page ad learing MSCE.
Well that
is the typical rip people off. I think most trade school are rip-off.
I actually
i was the one who attended a elelctronic trade school and got quited.
I find
out later on it was rip-off. I went back to college where I saw two
other
a former students who did graduated but didn't get a job but spent a
lots of money. The kind Computer tech trade school is becoming a big
business. It's
good business if you are a owner but if you are studetns you will be
the victim.

I was referring to the spelling of "MSCE." If the school is calling their
certificition program for MSCE, then I'd call it a rip off.

Lee-

If you mean by "trade school" a local junior college or proprietary school
(like Herzing), then the program you are probably seeing advertised is one
like Itec offers - some kind of joint venture where the company offering the
training sets up classes using the institution's facilities, and provides
certified instructors, etc. The $6000 figure you mention sounds like the
amount Itec was getting for one of its MCSE programs around here a year or
two ago. If it is a co. like Itec offering the training, you don't have much
to worry about - other than the high cost itself. The fact is that all of
these certification tracks, wether it's Microsoft , Cisco, or whatever, are
really just elaborate exam crams. Don't get me wrong - you can learn a lot -
but you ain't got nuthin' till you pass the test for that particular
certification. And that spells even more cash out of your pocket.

There is such a controversy nowadays about the value of certs in the job
market that I won't even go into that debate. But if I were going to do this
all over from a standing start (and I myself am currently a candidate for
A+, Network+, and MCSE, and a possible future CCNA wanabee), I would get at
least a 2 yr. degree in CS, with hardcore programming training in 2 or 3 top
computer languages now in use (C++, VB, etc), plus general studies in system
anaysis & networking. Then get A+ - Network+ - Server+ for paper
certification and get out and get yourself some real OJT experience
somewhere. Worry about the vendor certs later, and when you can afford them
(Please note that the current cost of my MCSE program would pay the tuition
for a Master's degree in MIS at my local state university!!)

Final note: There's a lot of doom saying about the terrible IT job market
these days, and I would take some of it seriously, to the extent that the
economy is pretty screwed up right now and good jobs are not falling out of
the sky and landing in your lap(as if they ever did), but anybody having
real skills and desire to succeed, should do just that.
