What do you guys think of the whole bootcap phenomena? I got my MCSE in
2001 and the bootcamp was basically a superset of the test questions on the
official exam. If you have a reasonably good memory you can pass.

I a UNIX-type and have used little of my MCSE skills. Are these bootcamps
bad or good in your view? Do they de-value the certification or not?

P.S.: I passed all test with no repeats.

A programmer friend of mine just completed a 2 week MCSE bootcamp and knew
nothing of Networking other than peer to peer. He passed every exam. There
is no way in heck I could ever remember those questions. I'm impressed that
he got through it. I thought for sure he spent 8K for nothing. He came
home and put up a network and reviewed all of his study material and is
looking for a job now.

I can't even remember all my practice questions so if I was under the gun
I'd be in big trouble plus out of cash. I guess some ppl just have super
memories!

Carolina

You don't have to have long term memory. You get to go through the superset
of exam questions and keeping going through the questions that stumped you
until you can visually recognize the correct answer. You then take the test
and hope that whatever mneumonic you chose to help you distinguish the
correct answer holds up.

I was fortnuate that mine did. Cheers.

No way! The guy who sells the service (who, by the way calls me twice a
week) assures me that as soon as I finish the course I can get a job that
pays $80k/yr. He wouldn't lie to me. Would he?

I was lucky enough to get my name on THE wrong list of ALL wrong lists. I
had those bastids callin me from 2 or 3 different places telling me all I
had to do was get that cert and I could write my own ticket. (Maybe they
just don't know it's not 1995 anymore...like an old VietNamese militant
wandering the jungles of South Asia and doesn't even know the wars over.) I
considered reporting them because they just don't take no for an answer. I
had to call one guy's boss after he called back and yelled at my wife for
hanging up on him. Bastids.
