| Most definitely NOT the Sybex one. I found it to be a poorly rehashed
version of their windows 2000 Professional book.

| Well I'm no Sybex hater but I do think that some of their MCSE books are
over rated (their CCNA one is excellent) when compared to other offereings.
I used New Riders and Sybex concurrently for a lot of my exams and New
Riders came out on top every time. Best thing to do is go to a decent size
book shop and have a look at the various writing styles available. Then
select one you feel most feel at home with (which in my case was New Riders)
and order on-line on the cheap! Some publisher sites (such as Sybex) allow
you to download a sample chapter. HTH.
Regards,
DJKJ

| Well I am a Sybex hater. As a reference, they are okay. But for learning
out of, they are limited. As a teacher, finding a good textbook is part of
the job description. All of the teachers at my school agree with me about
Sybex: reference - yes; textbook/learning aid - no.
MS Press produces some okay books, most of the time. Also, Course
Technology does a pretty good job. Those are our preferences.

| Yes, I totally agree, they are better used as a reference. I don't hate
Sybex per se, but their 70-270 was pitiful. I wrote a full rant about it
some time ago here on this newsgroup. I used them for the Net+ and that
book was much better, but it still wasn't great. I don't hear anyone
mention the Exam Cram2 books. I used one of those for A+ and I found it to
be very good. I may go back to them for the 70-216.
For the 70-215, I don't know yet because I haven't read all of it, but I
suspect Sybex's Mastering Windows 2000 Server by Mark Minasi will be
perfectly well suited to the task of actually teaching the material, even
though it is not directly geared toward the MCSE. So you see, I don't hate
Sybex entirely.

| Hi there,
My name is Neil Edde and I'm the Associate Publisher responsible for
Sybex's Study Guides. I spend a fair amount of time reviewing the
posts in these newsgroups, as I feel it's important to know what's on
the minds of IT certification candidates. I won't take up anyone's
time trying to defend Sybex's approach to publishing certification
Study Guides, but I will say that if anyone has any constructive
feedback that they'd like to provide me about what they do or don't
like about a particular Sybex Study Guide, or about Sybex Study Guides
in general, they should feel free to e-mail me directly at
nedde@sybex.com. We're always looking for ways to improve our
publishing program, and customer feedback is the best first-step
toward accomplshing that.

Associate Publisher, Certification
Sybex, Inc.

| Not to flame Ray, but the least you could do would be to give him some feed
back on what could be better.....
