Author Question for Win 98

My friend bought a new computer bare and installed Win 98 second Edition.
His Wife did something and his winsocket stopped working along with an error
message ( ndishlp.sys file missing) When I try to ping or tracert it shows
No WInsocket) In others his Winsocket is gone.

all of his TCP/IP bindings appear to be there. Anyone that can help me would
be appreciated as I am not very strong in TCP/IP. Anyone that has any ideas
please email me.

Thanks in advance
Mike

Uninstall the TCP/IP protocol and reinstall it!

I would have tried a Desktop Support Group. But then again, WHAT where you
thinking putting Windows 98 on the stupid thing.

Short of reinstalling the OS, I would 1) remove TCP/IP, reboot, then
reinstall TCP/IP (you'll need the 98 install CD or cab files for this). if
that doesn't work......2) find another Win98SE PC (maybe someone in your
office at work), do a search for the ndishlp.sys file on the hard drive
(probably located in the Windows directory or Windows\System), copy it to a
floppy disk, then copy it from the floppy to the appropriate directory on
your friend's hosed up PC. It may not work but it would be worth a try. If
you can't find another working Win98SE computer, you could extract it from
one of the installation CAB files and place the file in the proper
directory, but I don't know which CAB it's in, and besides it would take
less time to just back up the files your friend needs to a zip disk or
something, and reinstall the OS.

If u are not sure which CAB, use sfc.exe (System File Checker utility). All
u need to know is where the file is supposed to have been installed. And the
sfc will extract the file automatically for you. Or u can do a full scan
using sfc for changed/missing/corrupt files but that could take a long time.
