| Why not use partition magic 8, and setup 3 partitions. 2 for the O/S's, and
One big one for data? That way you could make the system partitions read
only and get some virus protection. Has anyone tried this? Does it work?

| You cannot make the system partition read-only. Windows does lots of
writing during normal operation.

| Ever think of the swap/page file on the system partition, It can't be read
only!! Thats not the only thing either, windows is constantly writing to
this disk.

The page file can be moved to another drive. Ditto with the spool
files, temp files, cache files, etc.
Can it be done?
Maybe.
Would anyone who valued their time more than a trivial amount of disk
space bother trying?
No.

| yes, the page file can be moved as can most of the other stuff! But what a
waste of time it would be to set that all up! You are certainly free to do
what you want with your system, it is, after all, your system! I just see
alot of problems arising on the system when trying to do day to day
operations, it would take ALOT of setup! Whatever you decide, good luck!

| the question has a why not infront of it, I hear lots of people talking
about it, but I haven't found any that have actually done it!

You could always try Knoppix - a version of linux that runs from CD
(and should therefore run happily from a read-only partition.
No *that* should be pretty safe from virii...
