| hi.....
could anyone help please......
i have an ntfs drive which i have tried to install on another computer...
but when i boot the new comp i get the blue screen of death
is there a problem moving ntfs drives between systems?????
or has anyone else got any ideas

| I would boot to Dos and fdisk + format
even if it doesnt detect it all cause its too big it dun matter cause u
can fix it up later in windows - B.S.Death

| Dos to boot, delpart to remove the ntfs partition, dos can't see it.

| The Win2K installer will remove/recreate the partition for you. I would suggest
a clean reinstall, your problem can range from incompatible versions of ACPI to
your hard disk controller using different sectors per track for your drive.
Tracking down the problem is usually harder than reinstalling.

You can hardly expect to reboot another computer with a hd from some
other computer... If you want to access the data on the HD that you
move to other computer, first install w2k on the new computer on
another HD, and use your old HD as secondary drive!
You can also repartition the old HD, and make available a small enough
partition for new W2k Installation, and let your old data sit on
remaining partitions. Once the syustem starts and boots up from the
new partition, you may be able to access your old data!
As others had said... trying to track the problems related to booting
up errors from a foreign hd on a new system is too time consuming, and
there are no guarantees of a solution to the problem...

| I had hd maxtor @ hp/win me.
After it stoped booting (hanging before loading desktop images with "error in shell32.dll" msg), I installed the small hd (seagate metallist 3GB) with w2k and the old one wanted to keep for data.
W2k doesn't map the old drive, I can't access it.
This small hd is primary master and the old one is secondary master.BIOS recognises both correctly. Both are FAT32.
In disk manager w2k the drive listed in the right hand pane as Disk1 online, Unallocated. Properties show vendor, disk volume and secondary channel correctly. It offers to create partition, but I think the data would be deleted then and I want to keep it...

| Does it show as healthy?
Did you rescan the imported disk?

| Sorry about previous post. I misread your symptoms. Please disregard?
Here are some Ideas/Questions that may help you:
Can you see the drive in Device Manager?
Can you read the drive if you start with a Dos boot disk or something
like a 98 start disk? If not, possible drive defect or jumper or
cable/port problem.
If you pull the drive with it running can you hear it turning? If no
sound, drive is trash.
Curious, why did you place the old drive on the secondary channel? Have
you tried it as a Primary slave? Hard drive do not perform as well on
the secondary since it is on a slower buss than the primary which in on
the PCI bus.
Finally, have you tried the drive in another PC?
