1. I downloaded the iso file rc2 checked debug build of enterprise 2003
2. I make an image to CD using Windows XP's ISO Recorder (free add on) ,
which makes a bootable CD

But when I tried to start the cd from winXP nothing happens.
I click on setup.exe, it says d:\setup.exe is not a valid win32
application

Then I go look inside the i386 directory.
There are no exe files such as winnt32.exe etc

There are only compressed files
(with _ as the last character indicating a compressed files)

Then I went to an existing install of .net server enterprise older
version.
It won't even recognize the CD. I made a similar CD suing same process for
Office 2003 Beta and that auto boots fine
So I am not sure what / where the problem is with this CD
(The Office 2003 beta CD is all CAB files only...if that tells you
anything)

TIA

Go download the 32 bit version, you downloaded the one built for the Itanium
(64 Bit).

You will get that error when you try to install win64 on a 32 bit x86
platform, if you go to the private cpp newsgroups you'll see this is a
common error. You can not install 64 bit software on a regular computer,
you'll need a Itanium or Itanium II server (which start at $10,000 or more).

Looks like you are right
I went back & looked.at MSN download center
In fact there is no version explicitly named cheeked for 32 bit listed
There is only one for 64 bit
