Hi,

I am wondering before beginning my MCSE track which books should I use? I am
planning to self study and I find that Microsoft Press kit for MCSE is good,
yet I didn't make up my mind and might choose Sybex books.

I would appreciate any reply.

Thanks

Hi

I agree the Sybex books are good.

However some of the Microsoft books come with evaluation copies of Server
and professional. A lab is practically essential, so if you do not have
copies of the operating system, this is one way to get hold of it.

You could buy the Sybex books for the core, and buy one of the Microsoft
books for an elective if it comes with an installation of W2K server. I got
the Microsoft book for 70-219 that has an evaluation version of Advanced
Server, as that is the exam I picked for my design elective.

As for the Microsoft core books...they have changed them so I can not
comment on what the new versions are like. Try Amazon and see what (if any)
comments people have left about the two sets of books.

Cheers
Chris

I was very happy with Sybex and ended up using them for all of my
studies. Some do complain that they can be dry and other say they are
best suited for someone who isn't starting out with computers. One
thing I suggest is to go to the Publisher's websites (or sometimes
Amazon) and download any sample chapters available. See if the
writing style works for you.

To see which books I used for MCSE, and recommend for others, take a
look here:

Good luck!

Sybex worth the price because it really prepare for the exam

Microsoft press worth the price because when you are challenged in your
knowledge everybody agrees when you show a paper signed by Microsoft

Good suggestion Slammer - one study resource rarely covers all bases.

I've used them both and find them equally good. I recommend going to a book
store scanning through the books and pick the one that most looks like it
will meet your needs. Do this with each book that you purchase. Even
though I found them equally good doesn't mean that they both will present
information to your liking.

I would definitely use Sybex for preparing the test and MS Press for
